About the Artist
Ken Stewart (1926–1991) was a Jarrow-based artist known for his evocative paintings, drawings, and sculptures that captured the essence of Tyneside. A founding member of the Jarrow Art Group in 1962, he explored styles ranging from dark industrial scenes to vibrant, impressionistic works reflecting the region’s changing landscape.

He exhibited widely, with solo shows at the Shipley, Jarrow Hall, and South Shields Library, and was especially proud of his "Northern Impressions" exhibition at the Bede Gallery.
